AEDC PHOTO # 73-366

A combination of two wind tunnel techniques is shown in this photograph taken during a series of tests using a model of the F-4 Phantom. The lighter colored area on the left wing is a yellow thermographic phosphor paint whose reflectance under ultraviolet light varies with temperature. The fuselage and right wing are coated with a light oil to which an ultraviolet dye has been added. The oil conforms itself to the air flowing over the model, making the streamlines visible.
